Part 1
Last January 20, 2023 at around 6:45 PM, I felt pain in my right abdomen. It was constant that I kept on saying aray (ouch). I tried lying down but the pain intensified so I got up real quick. Ten minutes into the pain, I started to vomit. It happened twice but the pain did not subside hence, I asked my niece to bring me to the hospital.
Good thing that my cousin’s car was in our area because they were in the garden so my niece was able to call them right away. There are a few ascending steps from our house to the road. It took me 10 minutes including rests in between to walk those steps when normally, one can walk through it in less than 2 minutes. My cousin who was assisting me was trembling so hard, maybe because of nervousness hehe. Sorry na.
I asked my cousin to stop twice on our way because the car’s movement is adding up to the pain BUT when the pain worsened, I had no choice but to endure the ride as my cousin tried to drive as fast as the current traffic allowed at that time.
The plan was to go to Baguio Medical Center (BMC) then to Notre Dame then back to Baguio Medical Center since this is the nearest hospital to our location.
I am thankful that the BMC emergency room wasn’t full at that time so I was attended to right away. I was given a painkiller via injection while they were looking for good veins (my chubby hands have thin veins so this has always been a problem hehe). My breathing became shallow at one point. I cannot do normal breathing because it intensifies the pain so I was avoiding deep breaths. Also, while waiting for the painkillers to take effect, I felt like my stomach was being plowed brutally repeatedly. I had to hold my breath while waiting for that to pass. I don’t know if that was the painkiller working or what. That took about 5 to 10 seconds but it felt like forever at the time.
After maybe around 20 minutes, the meds started to take effect hence the pain subsided. I asked my niece to tell hubs to hurry. Magkita man lang muna kami because at that point, everything was uncertain (at least to me) and anything can happen. He wasn’t home so he was meeting us straight in whatever hospital we were going to. Unfortunately, he was on his way to Notre Dame when we informed him that the final destination was BMC, hence he had to go back. I would later on learn that he had a hard time getting a taxi at Notre Dame so he walked and was only able to hail one halfway to BMC. Hay apo met piman.
Anyway, the doctor suggested that I should be admitted for further observation and for an ultrasound the next day. The initial suspect was gallbladder-related but further tests were needed.
And so, the “Sleepless at the Hospital” episodes began. Hehe.
